LOUISVILLE, Ky – The No. 7 Adrian College women's wrestling team traveled to the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National Duals in Louisville, Kentucky. The team opened up with a win against Ferrum College, 29-14. The Bulldogs were defeated by Simon Fraser University, 42-5, and Augsburg University, 25-24. Adrian finished their trip with a win against Limestone University, 30-17.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs opened the day with a dual against Ferrum College. Zoe Nowicki won her match by tech fall. Brittney Wolgast, Mackenzie Tayerle, Megan Vondrasek, and Mara Eason all won their matches by fall. Adrian advanced to the quarterfinals with a 29-14 win over Ferrum.
In the quarterfinals, the Bulldogs faced the number two seed, Simon Fraser University. Adrian was shutout in the match except for the win by Angela Goldwire to start the match. Simon Fraser came away with a 42-5 win.
The Bulldogs competed in the consolation bracket with a dual against Augsburg University. Augsburg quickly jumped out to a 19-5 lead heading in to Nowicki's bout. Adrian went on to win four of the last five bouts, but Augsburg came away with the nail-biting win, 25-24.
The Bulldogs finished their trip with an extra dual against Limestone University. Limestone led 10-5 until Wolgast, Tayerle, Nowicki, and Vondrasek won their bouts to take a 24-10 lead. Adrian finished the National Duals with a 30-17 victory over Limestone.
The Bulldogs return to action on Sunday, January 19 at the Tornado Open hosted by King University in Bristol, Tennessee. The open begins at 9:00 AM.
