OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.--Adrian College sent four student-athletes here to compete on Friday in the 2017 Women's Collegiate Wrestling Association National Championships hosted by Oklahoma City University in the Freede Center. The championships and consolation brackets resume tomorrow, but no Bulldogs qualified for the second and final day of the tournament.
Junior Kassidy Block led the way for Adrian with a 2-2 record at 123 pounds. She won her first round match over Andrea Altamira from Lindenwood University with an 11-0 technical fall. After she was eliminated in the second round, she pinned Amanda Nelson of Ferrum College in 1 minute and 21 seconds. Her tournament came to a close in the consolation bracket, third round.
Sophomore Deandra Benn also went 2-2 at 130. Benn received a first-round bye but fell in her next outing to go into the consolation bracket. Then after two byes to begin the consolation bracket, she reeled off back-to-back technical fall wins over Lindsay Villarmia (Missouri Baptist) and Josselyn Pacheco (Jamestown University) 12-2 and 10-0, respectively. Benn's run ended in the consolation fifth round.
Adrian will be idle until the March 24-25 USA Wrestling University Nationals.
