MARSHALL, Mo.--Adrian College traveled to Missouri to compete in the Missouri Valley College Women's Wrestling Open, billed as the nation's largest such event. The Bulldogs scored 28 points to finish 13th out of 35 teams.
Junior Rachel McFarland once again had a strong showing as she would finish third in the 143-weight class. McFarland would begin the weekend on a tear as she won three straight matches without giving up a point, winning with scores of 14-0, 8-0, and 10-0. In the quarterfinals, however, she came up just short losing a 7-5 decision to Alexis Porter of McKendree University. McFarland would bounce back winning her next two matches decisively, first winning 10-0 and then 15-5, to close out her performance.
Freshman Samantha Cushard at the 155-weight class also had a win in the tournament. After taking a loss in her first match, Cushard would win in a 2-0 decision over Janae Wilson of Ottawa University. Unfortunately Cushard would come up just short in her next match losing by an 8-6 decision.
The Bulldogs will be back in action Friday, January 8, at the National Duals in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
