Women's Volleyball Blanks Defiance for Third Straight Sweep

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College women's volleyball team swept Defiance at home on Saturday, Sep. 29. The Bulldogs now have a three-match winning streak and have won five of their last six.


Final Score: Adrian 3, Defiance 0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-23)

Records: Adrian 9-7 (2-1 MIAA), Defiance 2-13 (0-1 HCAC)


Adrian jumped out to a quick lead in the first set controlled the play throughout, cruising to a 25-14 victory to open the match.

The Bulldogs took another large lead early in the second set, but Defiance was able to make up some of the ground. It wouldn't be enough for the Yellow Jackets and Adrian took the second set 25-19.

The third set was much closer, with neither team able to open up much of a lead. The Black and Gold picked up four points in a row late to put them two points away from winning the match when Defiance started to comeback. With a slim lead of 24-23 the Bulldogs won the next point to take the final set 25-23 to win the match.


• Junior Carly Thomas led the Bulldogs in kills with ten.

• Sophomore Liz Susitko was Adrian's leader in assists, finishing with 23.

• Junior Megan Prsa senior Olivia Welch led the Black and Gold's defense with 18 and 16 digs, respectively. Welch also contributed eight kills in the win.


• Delaney Monnin led the Defiance offense with ten kills.

• Brianna Wheeler led the Yellow Jackets in assists with 15.

• The Defiance defense was led by Morgan Porter with 24 digs.


The Bulldogs will travel to St. Mary's on Friday, Oct. 5 for a non-conference rematch with the Belles. Adrian defeated St. Mary's on Wednesday, Sep. 26 at home in MIAA play 3-0.
