ADRIAN, Mich.--The Adrian College women's tennis team had its home debut on Monday, but visiting Lawrence Tech spoiled the festivities with an 8-1 non-conference victory over the Bulldogs. The Blue Devils, who are a NAIA-scholarship program out of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, improve to 3-3 on the season while the Bulldogs fall to 0-2.
Sophomore Makayla Jorgensen picked up Adrian's lone point with a thrilling No. 6 singles win over Sarah Burgess, coming from behind after dropping the first set 6-4. Jorgensen zipped through the second set, 6-0, to set up a super-set tiebreaker where she outlasted Burgess, 11-9.
Sabrina Mateos led Lawrence Tech with a pair of wins at No. 1 doubles and singles.
The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday when they host another NAIA-affiliated program in Huntington University (Indiana) at the Craft Tennis Complex. The match, which was rescheduled from a postponement on Sep. 7, is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
