Women's Tennis Crushes NCAA Division II-Scholarship Ursuline College on the Road, 8-1

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio--The Adrian College women's tennis team swept the doubles competition and captured five of six singles matches en route to an 8-1 non-conference win at Ursuline College on Monday at the Mayfield Racquet Club.

Adrian evens its overall record to 5-5 while the Arrows--who are affiliated with the NCAA Division II scholarship-eligible Great Midwest Athletic Conference--fall to 0-3 on the season.

The Bulldogs got off to a strong 3-0 start through the doubles matches, highlighted by an 8-2 win for the No. 1 tandem of senior Morgan Spencer and sophomore Amber Laginess against Roslyn Ng, Caitlin Seese.

Victoria Watson, Mikayla Herig and Onnalee Lach, Laginess and Spencer were double winners for the Bulldogs, who won five singles matches while dropping only one game in the process.

Adrian senior Arielle Williams lost a heartbreaking No. 1 singles match to Roslyn Ng in three sets. Ng took the opener 6-2 before Williams evened the match 6-4 in the second. In a third-set super-tiebreaker, Ng won the slugfest 12 to 10.

Laginess remains unbeaten in seven No. 4 singles matches and owns a team-best 9-1 record to pace the Bulldogs in singles.

The Bulldogs make their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association debut on Tuesday at Albion College, starting at 4 p.m.
