DELAWARE, Ohio – The women's tennis team dropped a pair of non-conference matches on Saturday against Wooster (6-3) and Ohio Wesleyan (7-2). The Bulldogs are now 7-5 overall this season.
Wooster captured the first three points in doubles with two of the matches seeing close results. Kylee Bezeau and Morgan Spencer dropped an 8-6 score at two doubles against Catherine Boyles and Rachel Mole. The three doubles went down to the wire as Justine Hanson and Victoria Watson battled Elizabeth Brewington and Melanie Chin. The Fighting Scots pulled it out 9-8 (7-5) and got a critical third point to keep momentum.
Wooster clinched the match at one and two singles dropping just two games in four sets. The Bulldogs did however win three of the final four singles matches. Spencer needed a tiebreak in the first set 7-6 (10-8) and then cruised in the second set 6-0. Bezeau clinched a win at four singles over Rose Chiumento in straight sets (6-2, 6-1). McKenzie Krieg also won at six singles with a 7-5, 6-1 score against Boyles.
The Battling Bishops got a 7-2 win over Adrian in the second match from Gordon Field House. The Bulldogs won at one doubles as Renae Adams Almasy and Arielle Williams had an 8-5 win over Brooke Butterworth and Adrienne D'Alewyn. Ohio Wesleyan then took the other two doubles matches allowing Adrian to gain five games.
Spencer had a see-saw victory at three singles as she won 6-4 in the opening set but struggled to a 6-0 loss in the second set. Spencer regrouped for a 11-9 super tiebreak over Alex Webb. The Battling Bishops won all other singles matches in straight sets.
