NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The women's tennis team tried to rally Tuesday against St. Mary's but in the end Mother Nature prevailed.
In the three uncompleted matches, the Bulldogs were starting to reign by either already winning a set or were leading in a current set when the match was halted in singles play by rain.
At No. 3 singles play, Jordenne Ferenczi won the first set 6-1, and was ahead in the tiebreaker in the second set when her match was ended by the weather.
"Jordenne played a tremendous match today and was sitting in great shape before the weather hit. She battled in the second set and was playing extremely smart tennis," said women's coach Adam Albertsen.
Jordyn Grant was also involved in a tiebreaker when her match was stopped only after rallying for a second-set 6-3 win at No. 4 singles.
"Jordyn fell behind in the first set but showed great fight and heart coming back to win the second. No matter where Jordyn is in the lineup, she is ready to fight and make her opponents work and today was no different," said Albertsen.
Justine Hanson had jumped out in front in her second set at No. 6 singles after just getting edged in a heartbreaking tiebreaker loss in the first set, 6-7 (7-9).
"Justine got off to a bit of a slow start but really turned it on in the match," said Albertsen.
The Bulldogs return home this Sunday against Olivet College at 11:00 at the Craft Tennis Complex.
