ADRIAN, Mich. - It all came down to five singles on Tuesday afternoon for the women's tennis team and Jordenne Ferenczi needed three sets to defeat Samantha Willmann (4-6, 6-4, 6-3) and give Adrian a 5-4 win over Trine University. Adrian is now 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the MIAA while Trine falls to 3-6 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
Before the five singles match provided drama, the Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead in doubles behind Shannon Woods and Sarah Brooks as well as Ferenczi and Sarah Sokolowski. Woods and Brooks won 8-2 at two doubles while Ferenczi and Sokolowski won 8-3 at three doubles.
"Sarah Brooks, Sarah Kean and Jordenne Ferenczi all stepped up with huge singles wins to secure the match," said head coach Adam Albertsen. "Jordenne came through in a pressure spot being the last one on the court and battled to take the third set."
Trine took the top two singles matches in straight sets as Adrian managed to win just five games in those four sets. Sarah Kean had a big win at three singles with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Lauren Schleuter. Brooks needed a tiebreak in the second set but won 6-1, 7-6 (8-6) at four singles over Erin Kwaske.
"The whole team showed a lot of heart and it was great conference win," said Albertsen. The Bulldogs travel to Olivet this Saturday.
