ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College women's soccer team (16-4-2) will travel to St. Louis, Mo. to take on Wisconsin-Stevens Point (11-4-3) in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament on Saturday.
The Bulldogs earned the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's (MIAA) automatic bid into the tournament, beating out Kalamazoo 4-1 on Saturday evening behind a four-goal first half. They were also named the MIAA Regular Season Champions, going 7-1 in the conference.
AC had five members named All-Conference, highlighted by Caroline Fleming who was named first team and the league's Most Valuable Player.
Heading into the MIAA Championship, Adrian was ranked eighth in the nation in assists per game (29.), with Fleming ranking 22nd with .57. The squad also ranked third in assists with 61, while Fleming lead the squad with 14. Lastly, the Bulldogs ranked sixth in points with 195, led again by Fleming with 44, ranking inside the top-40.
The Pointers made the tournament on an at-large bid, ranking fourth in the NCAA Division III North Region to round out the season.
Wisconsin-Stevens Point fell in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Semifinals 1-1 (2 OT) to the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse in penalty kicks.
The pair will face off at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, with the winner of that matchup facing the winner of hosting Washington University (15-2-1) and Maryville (Tenn.) (15-4) at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Tickets will be available at the gate, $7 for adults, $5 for seniors (65+), military, students and children (3-17). Children 2 and under are free. Gates open an hour before kickoff.
