Adrian Battles to Double Overtime Stalemate with Nationally-Ranked Otterbein

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Adrian College women's soccer team was unable to overcome No. 24 Otterbein on the road, settling for a tie after 110 minutes was not enough to decide a winner.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Adrian 3, Otterbein 3 (2OT)

Location: Otterbein University (Memorial  Stadium)

Records: Adrian 4-2-2, Otterbein 4-1-1

HOW IT HAPPENED

Otterbein is currently ranked 24th in the USC Top-25 national poll, 2nd in the USC Great Lakes Regional poll and is receiving votes in D3soccer.com's poll. The Cardinals and Bulldogs took turns putting shots on-goal throughout the better half of the first stanza, with neither getting themselves on the board. The hosts finally broke the streak in the 28th minute, to give themselves a 1-0 lead they would hold heading into the second half.

Leading goal scorer for Adrian, Caroline Fleming, evened the score 13 minutes in the second half, unassisted. It wasn't long before Otterbein responded, posting another goal at 68:22.

For any other team in the nation, hope would have faded, as they tallied another less than 10 minutes later to put themselves up 3-1, but this was not the case for AC.

Angela Davis began the comeback with her first goal as a Bulldog coming in the 85th minute, helped along by Fleming.

The final piece of AC's effort was McKenna Mahoney, who's unassisted goal with less than 45 seconds remaining in regulation sent the contest into extra periods.

Overtime period one saw just one shot, owned by Adrian, as Molly Safreed attempted to put one on goal in the 93rd minute.

Overtime period two saw no shots, but two fouls on AC.

  • Senior Ayverie Giller, who five saves, playing in all 110 minutes.
