Two Goals Not Enough in Stalemate with Wooster

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College women's soccer team found itself in a 2-2 stalemate with Wooster College on Sunday afternoon after an offensive battle between the pair.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Adrian 2, Wooster 2 (2OT)

Location: Adrian College (Kapnick Field at Docking Stadium)

Records: Adrian 1-0-1, Wooster 1-0-1

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bulldogs were first to strike, as senior Caroline Fleming benefitted from a blocked attempt by a teammate, corralling the ball of the defender's body over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net during the 11th minute. The Fighting Scots responded with a tally of their own just over 20 minutes later.

Adrian did not allow the game to stay tied for long, as McKenna Mahoney beat two defenders to the goal and sent the ball bottom left, putting the hosts up 2-1 in the late-goings of the half. Mahoney's goal was aided by Molly Safreed.

It took Wooster until the second half to answer as they were able to draw Ayverie Giller out of her post with a shot and matching it with an on-target shot.

The Bulldogs worked hard to deny the guests' advances with several great defensive plays in the remainder of regulation. Notably, Kassidy Miller shut down a Wooster athlete on a break-away with 27 minutes remaining, denying her the opportunity of a one-on-one with the goalie.

Despite several great chances, the contest was forced into double-overtime. In the first extra-period Fleming sent a strong shot onto the goal, barely stopped by a diving attempt from the keeper. Also posting an impressive attempt was Megan Louwers who's top-shelf shot was just inches off the mark.

The second over-time started in favor of Wooster, as it looked to draw Giller once again. This time however, she did not bite. The senior made the first save in diving fashion, before returning to her feet to stop the second shot.

Adrian had one more shot at ending the game and getting the win as Fleming once again found herself on the other side of the defense, sending a ball onto goal, ringing off the crossbar and out of play with three minutes remaining in the contest.
