Bulldogs Dominate in Season-Opener

HANCOCK, Mich. – The Adrian College women's soccer team opened the season in tremendous fashion, putting the boot to the hosting Finlandia Lions.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Adrian 5, Finlandia 0

Location: Finlandia University (McAfee Field)

Records: Adrian 1-0, Finlandia 0-1

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bulldogs wasted no time as Mya Oleksiak put them on the board in the opening two minutes of the contest, finding the back of goal off a Caroline Fleming corner kick, for what proved to be the game-winning goal.

Adding an insurance tally before the end of the first half was junior Megan Louwers as Molly Safreed was able to come away with ball following a mess in front of the net, feeding it to Louwers with just over 10 minutes on the scoreboard.

Adrian proceeded to put on an offensive clinic in the second half, adding three goals to the stat sheet, ignited as Fleming and Oleksiak found each other again, this time with Fleming owning the tally. The senior's goal came at 61:47 and was the product of a rebound in front of the goal.

The final 10 minutes of the contest saw two more Bulldog goals, both belonging to Raquel Church. Church's first score was helped along by Eve Davis, the latter by Angela Davis.

The Bulldog defense proved to be stout, allowing zero on-goal scoring opportunities for the hosts, as Ayverie Giller collected her first shutout of the season.
