ADRIAN, MICH. - Adrian College is pleased to announce the hiring of Marti Corby to the position of Assistant Women's Soccer Coach.
Corby comes to Adrian after an illustrious playing career at Grand Valley State University, where she led the Lakers to three straight NCAA DII National Championships from 2013-2015. She was a four-time All-American and was twice named National Player of the Year. Her stellar play also earned her an invite to the United States Under-23 Women's National Team training camp in 2016.
After the completion of her Bachelor's degree in Clinical Exercise Science, Corby then joined Grand Rapids FC for their inaugural season in 2017. She picked up where she left off at GVSU, scoring the game-tying goal in the UWS National Championship match before going on to win in overtime.
Head Coach Ali Alamdari remarks, "We're thrilled to bring a young coach of Marti's caliber to Adrian College. As a player, she has continually succeeded at an elite level and will be a tremendous resource for our student-athletes. It was evident right away in the interview process that her drive and commitment matches that of our program, and we can't wait to get started on the training field and on the recruiting trail this spring."
About joining the staff at Adrian, Corby says, "I am very excited and humbled by the opportunity to coach at Adrian College and continue building on the success of last season. Ali has built up this program for many years, and he has created an incredible team culture. I am really looking forward to coaching beside and learning from him."
The Bulldogs are coming off of a strong 2017 outing which saw the program return to the MIAA Semifinals, finishing the season ranked #6 in the Central Region by the NCAA. Corby replaces Kim Uetrecht, who became the third former Adrian assistant to be appointed head coach of a collegiate program.
About the team, Corby adds, "This program has a special group of girls. Their positive attitudes and competitiveness really stood out to me, and I cannot wait to work with and help develop each player on the team. I know I have some big shoes to fill as Assistant Coach, but I am beyond excited to start this new journey at Adrian."
A native of Ada, Michigan, Corby is a graduate of Forest Hills Central High School and played for Midwest United FC/Grand Rapids Crew Juniors. She spent the past year as a graduate assistant in the Student-Athlete Academic Support Services office at Xavier University while earning her Master's degree in Sport Administration. Prior to arriving at Xavier, she served as a Strength and Conditioning Intern for GVSU Track and Field.as well as Assistant Coach for Allendale High School, helping the team to their first conference championship in 2016.
