Women's Soccer Cruises to 4-1 Victory Over Wolverines

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College women's soccer team scored two goals in each half to cruise to a 4-1 win over Michigan-Dearborn. Senior Mackenzie Wilcox (Battle Creek, Mich.) tallied a goal and an assist in the Bulldog win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bulldogs dominated play through the majority of the opening half, scoring in the opening five minutes of the game when Mackenzie Wilcox scored after making a moving around a defender in the box and putting the ball past goalkeeper Jordan Anheuser (L, 0-2).

The Wolverines would tie the game in the 22nd minute when Jenna Rogers passed between two Adrian defenders to send Valeria Cossyleon on a breakaway.

Junior Colleen Cater (Ada, Mich.) scored off a corner kick from Claire Baghera (sophomore, Ada, Mich.) to give the Bulldogs back the lead, 2-1.

Entering the locker room at the half, Adrian outshot Michigan-Dearborn 8-2 and also edged the Wolverines in corner kicks 5-0.

The Bulldogs entered the second half on the attack, dominating possession of the ball for the majority of regulation. Kirsten Chambers (senior, Riverview, Mich.) gave Adrian an insurance goal off a fantastic cross from Wilcox to put the score at 3-1, Bulldogs. Sophomore Kimberly Lindberg (Farmington Hills, Mich.) booted a long shot off an assist from Chambers in the 76th minute for the final goal of the game.

Adrian tallied 22 shot attempts in the game while only allowing the Wolverines two shots, one on goal. The Bulldogs also registered 12 shots on goal and had 10 corner kicks.

TOP DOGS

• Wilcox finished the game with three points (1 goal, 1 assist) to lead the Adrian attack.

• Cater, Chambers, and Lindberg each registered their first goals of the season.

• Lindberg was the only Bulldog player to tally two shots on goal in the game.

Ayverie Giller (W, 4-1-1) recorded her fourth win of the season in the net for Adrian.

THE OPPOSITION

• Cossyleon scored her first goal of the season for the Wolverines.

• Rogers also tallied her first assist for her season stat line.

• Anheuser made eight saves in the game.

UP NEXT

The Bulldogs will return to conference play on Wednesday night when they host Olivet. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., ET.
