SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Adrian College women's soccer team (4-9-6, 2-9-4) won 2-0 on the road at St. Mary's (2-14-1, 2-12-1). Mackenzie Wilcox scored after teammate Tori Foote's shot was rebounded off of St. Mary's goalkeeper Liza Felix in the 14th minute to give the Bulldogs the early lead 1-0.
Foote, a captain for the defense, would leave the game following the play due to a knee injury. The Bulldogs were already short-handed as they began the game without senior goalkeeper Lexi Lewandowski and junior defensive player Megan Benoist, and now with Foote out as well Adrian would have to shift players around the formation to compensate.
Both Adrian and St. Mary's attempted 11 shots for the game, however the Bulldogs edged out the Belles in shots on goal 7-4. Sutherland and Emily Theisen both tallied two shots-on-goal, with one of Sutherland's finding twine. Willcox, Foote and Morgan Pearce all recorded one shot-on-goal, Foote's lone shot-on-goal would turn into an assist following Wilcox's goal in the first half.
"Losing Tori 15 minutes into the match required a great deal of flexibility and sacrifice," said Adrian Head Coach Ali Alamdari. "Every single player answered what the game asked of them. It was truly a team win."
The Bulldogs will wrap up the regular season when they host Albion for Senior Night and their final home contest of the season. The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m., start.
