GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The women's soccer team needed a big road win on Saturday (Oct. 25) at Calvin College to position themselves for another berth in the MIAA Tournament. The Bulldogs struggled for the second straight game falling 4-0 to the Knights as they also were swept in the season series. That could become big at the end of the season when tiebreakers are determined. The Bulldogs have 17 points with two games left and are tied with Calvin for fifth place. Albion is in fourth place holding the final spot for the postseason. Calvin has three games left in the season putting Adrian in an uphill climb.
"While the score doesn't reflect the run of play, it does reflect execution," said head coach Ali Alamdari. "Calvin executed when they had the chance to score and defend and we didn't. We'll continue to look for a commitment to execution on both ends of the field for the remainder of the season."
Calvin finished with 13 shots on goal as Lexi Lewandowski made nine saves for the Bulldogs. Adrian had four shots on goal and Emily Lawson made three saves. Christina Drost and Paige Capel scored 1:42 apart in the first half to build a 2-0 lead. Carly Veenstra and Capel added goals in the second half. Capel also assisted on the first goal of the game by Drost.
