OLIVET, Mich. – The Adrian College women's soccer team played in their third straight double overtime match on Monday (Sept. 8) and picked up their second straight win, 3-2, at Olivet College in the MIAA opener. Senior Erin Weide for the second straight match provided the winning goal in the final minutes of the match to improve the Bulldogs to 2-1-1 on the season.
Senior Ellery Karsten put Adrian ahead at the 39:35 mark with an assist from Emily Theisen on a shot from six yards out. Brooke Leach scored just after halftime at 50:23 on a rebound goal to tie it up at 1-1. Senior Lauren Badalamente scored her first goal as a Bulldog at the 80:38 mark with Weide claiming an assist on a shot inside the six-yard box.
Just under three minutes later the Comets tie it up again at 2-2 as Isabelle Leon headed a ball in the middle of the box for the equalizer. Olivet dropped their first match of the season (2-1-1) as Adrian held a 11-7 edge in shots on net. Lexi Lewandowski made five saves on the afternoon for the Bulldogs.
"Olivet played an excellent match and stuck to their counter-attacking game plan very well," said head coach Ali Alamdari. "They're an opportunistic team that will turn some heads this season. As for us, as much as the win is nice we were frustrated with the quality of our finishing and we know it will need to improve for us to reach our goals this season."
