KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) has announced the All-Region recipients for the 2013 season in NCAA Division III. The Bulldogs have two student-athletes in the Central Region that received honors.
Senior forward Sam Barker (Lambertville, Mich./Temperance Bedford H.S.) was named First Team All-Region and junior midfielder Erin Weide (Madison Heights, Mich./Bishop Foley H.S.) garnered Third Team All-Region plaudits. Barker is a repeat to the First Team list after also appearing in 2011. Weide has now been named First (2012), Second (2011) and Third (2013) Team All-Region for the Bulldogs.
"The fact that 11 MIAA players earned All-Region recognition this year is a testament to the level of play in this league," said head coach Ali Alamdari. "All the players and coaches around the conference should be commended on their hard work to elevate the profile of the MIAA. Erin Weide has been a model of consistency throughout her Adrian career, and I'm sure that being named All-Region for the third straight season will push her to greater heights for her senior year in 2014. There's not much left to say about Barker's career that hasn't been said. Sam will go down in history as one of the best to ever play in this conference, and this honor just pushes her name further up the AC record books."
Barker ranked first in the MIAA in goals (15), points (38), shots (80) and shots on goal (45) while also ranking second in assists this season. She also ranked 68th nationally among NCAA Division III players in points. Barker leaves the program with seven career school records including goals (65), assists (29), points (159), game-winning goals (23), shots (292), shots per game (4.06) and shots on goal (180). She also ranks 11th all-time in MIAA history in goals (44) and points (108) during conference action.
Weide was the 2012 MIAA MVP and followed that up with another successful season. She played in 20 matches and finished with 13 goals and five assists. Weide finished second in the conference in goals and points (31) while also placing third in shots on goal (26). She also finished the season with four game-winning goals for the Bulldogs. Weide currently ranks third all-time at Adrian College in goals (38), assists (18), points (94), game-winning goals (12), shots (178) and shots on goal (112).
