ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College women's soccer team turned in another very successful campaign under head coach Ali Alamdari in 2012. The Bulldogs finished 12-4-4 overall and 9-3-4 in the MIAA. The team qualified for the MIAA Tournament and reached the semifinals for the fifth straight year. Adrian was led by a trio of players who were announced as National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Central Region performers on Tuesday (Dec. 4).
Sophomore forward Erin Weide (Madison Heights, Mich./Bishop Foley HS) was named First Team All-Region. Weide led all MIAA players in goals (18) and points (40) this season and was also selected MIAA Most Valuable Player. She become's the second Bulldog in consecutive years to receive that honor. Weide ranked 37th in NCAA Division III in goals and 47th in points. She ranked 19th in the nation with six game-winning goals, including two in overtime.
Senior goalkeeper Chayna Wallace (Temperance, Mich./Bedford HS) was named Second Team All-Region. Wallace became the first First Team All-MIAA keeper from Adrian since 2002 (Sarah Moulik) and led the team to 11 shutouts, ranking as the most in the MIAA this season and also establishing a new school record. Wallace ranks 19th in NCAA Division III in save percentage despite facing the fourth highest amount of shots in the MIAA. She earned MIAA Defensive Player of the Week honors during week four this season and leaves as Adrian's all-time leader in shutouts, save percentage and wins.
Senior defender Patti Vaassen (Ann Arbor, Mich./Saline HS) was named Third Team All-Region. Vaassen is a repeat MIAA First Teamer from 2011 and was also named Second Team in 2010. She committed a total of just one foul all season playing a clean but aggressive defense. Vaassen was responsible for all corner kicks and most free kicks and contributed three assists on the season. Vaassen was asked to consistently mark the opposing team's number one option and performed admirably in 2012.
