ADRIAN, Mich. - Adrian College women's soccer posted back-to-back ties and the team made sure that did not happen again on Tuesday night with a resounding 6-0 win over visiting Trine University. Sophomore forward Erin Weide scored her second career hat trick, both this season, also scoring three times back on Sept. 7 versus Salem. Weide also added an assist matching her career-high of seven points also coming against Salem.
Weide scored three of Adrian's first four goals coming in the first 53:50 of the match. Weide upped her season total to 14 goals which currently stands tied for third in a season at Adrian. Weide's assist came on Adrian's third goal which was scored by Courtney Pomeroy just 22 seconds into the second half.
Carmina Lizyness and Sophie Rammal each scored their first goals of the season just 2:38 apart in the 73rd and 75th minute. Lizyness scored from eight yards out with an assist from Alanna Chambry and Rammal's goal was unassisted coming from 25 yards out to the top right corner.
"The girls did a great job of locking things down in the back, winning balls and possessing in the midfield," said head coach Ali Alamdari. "Most importantly putting the ball in the back of the net when they had the chance. We feel like we haven't quite played to our potential in that area, and today was a good first step toward where we want to be when the tournament comes around."
Adrian totaled 14 shots on goal by six different players. Senior Chayna Wallace played 63:30 in goal and made two saves getting the win. Freshman Taylor Royce finished the match and made four saves. Adrian has now extended its unbeaten streak to seven matches and picked up three critical points in the MIAA standings with three regular season matches remaining.
The conference is log-jammed in places two through six. Calvin has begun to distance themselves with 31 points in first place. Hope, Kalamazoo and Alma each are tied for second with 26 points. Saint Mary's and Adrian each have 25 points in a battle of five teams for three spots in the postseason tournament. The Bulldogs have a favorable schedule with matches against Olivet and Albion with three league wins between them. Adrian's regular season finale is a home contest on Oct. 31 against league-leading Calvin.
