ADRIAN, Mich. - For most soccer players a five-match scoreless streak is not a big deal, but for junior All-American Sam Barker it is the longest such streak in her career. Good news for Adrian College fans was that she ended it Wednesday night as she scored twice in a 2-0 win over visiting Olivet College at Performance Stadium.
Barker scored her third and fourth goals of the season and might be just rounded back into form after missing two weeks earlier this season. Barker scored at 6:58 with an assist from sophomore Ellery Karsten and then added insurance at 75:21 with an assist from Sophie Rammal.
Adrian (7-2-1, 4-2-1) outshot the Comets (1-10, 1-6) by a 10-5 edge in shots on goal. Sophomore Erin Weide had two shots on goal as did Karsten. Kaylee Liddle led the Comets with four shots on goal.
Senior Chayna Wallace made five saves in the shutout. Deanna Zolnoski recorded eight saves in net for Olivet.
"We possessed and created chances. Zolnoski made a lot of good one-on-one stops to keep them in the game. It was nice to rest Caruso and Phillips, which was a big bonus. We are looking forward to our next game against Albion this Saturday and are hoping to see a big crowd," said head coach Ali Alamdari.
