GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The women's soccer team ran into a tough road test at Calvin College on Saturday afternoon and fell flat after an emotional double overtime win against Hope just two days ago. The ladies fell behind 3-0 in the first half and sophomore Erin Weide tallied the team's only goal at 62:26 to avoid the shutout.
Paige Capeo scored her fourth goal of the season at 10:33 with an assist from Sydney Kinney to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. Capeo's header off a corner kick gave Calvin early momentum that they would carry over into the remainder of the first half. Danielle Carter scored her second goal of the season at 27:59 with an assist from Kelly Koets on a tap-in off a corner kick to increase the lead to 2-0. Calvin ended the half up 3-0 after Abigal Ploeg scored her first goal of the season at 38:58 with an assist from Jaimie Verbal on a cross from midfield to the far post.
Weide scored her ninth goal of the season in the second half with an assist from Sam Barker on a tap-in off a rebound in front of the goal. Adrian was outshot, 11-6, in shots on goal for the match. Chayna Wallace allowed all three goals but did make eight saves in the match. Calvin improved to 6-2, 5-1 in the conference while the Bulldogs are now 6-2-1, 3-2-1 in the MIAA.
