ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College women's soccer team, under the guidance of head coach Ali Alamdari, blanked Olivet College today (Oct. 29) 7-0 on the field of Performance Stadium. The Lady Bulldogs improve to 15-4 overall and 13-2 in the conference.
Adrian's offense dominated the whole game and outshot Olivet 24-2, while earning its largest margin of victory of the season.
"Olivet is one of those teams who attacks early in attempt to put points on the board," said Alamdari. "Today was an comprehensive effort and that was the key to the win."
All-MIAA sophomore Sam Barker added to her conference and team leading goals on the year with a header to the right lower post in the 13th minute of play. Junior Patti Vaassen set up the play with a nice touch pass from 15 yards out.
Freshman Erin Weide opened up Adrian's lead to 3-0 with back-to-back goals at the 23:44 and 24:59 marks of the game. For the first goal, Weide showed excellent speed and agility as she flew past Olivet's defense for the score. The second goal was created by Becky Reynolds in which Weide connected with a one-timer to the right high post. Weide now has seven goals on the season.
The Lady Bulldogs added to its lead before intermission with a goal by Vaassen off a free kick.
Following halftime, Barker scored her second goal of the game with a breakaway, giving Adrian the 5-0 advantage at the 55:11 mark. Barker now has scored 21 goals this season. 10 minutes later freshman Ellery Karsten got in on the offensive action with her seventh goal of the game. Freshman Aly Masciovecchio earned the assist. Not to be outdone, sophomore Alex Bowen scored her second goal on the year with a score at the 89th minute. Sophomore Alanna Chambry picked up the assist.
With today's win, the Lady Bulldogs have clinched the MIAA regular season championship and will finish the regular season next Tuesday as it hosts Albion at 7:00 p.m.
