ANGOLA, Ind. – Two early first half goals guided the Adrian College women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Trine University today (Oct. 15). With the win, the Lady Bulldogs (11-4, 9-2 MIAA) maintain first place in the MIAA. With the loss, the Thunder falls to 3-10-2 overall and 1-8-2 in conference play.
At the 4:19 mark of the first half, All-MIAA sophomore Sam Barker did not waste any time getting Adrian on the board with a chip shot over the Trine goalie's head from the top of the box. This gives Barker a team and conference-leading 15 goals on the season putting her second in the all-time Adrian records passing Amy Buchanan (1990) and Lori Hodges (1992) who each had 14 in a season. Barker garnered first place with 17 goals a year ago.
The Lady Bulldogs continued to attack and scored their second goal of the game when junior Katie Caruso found classmate Lauren Cozzi for a 13th minute goal. Cozzi now stands second on the team with a career-high six goals.
For the game, Adrian outshot Trine 15-3 with seven different Lady Bulldogs getting a shot off.
Adrian goalie junior Chayna Wallace earned her third shut out on the season, while accumulating three saves.
Adrian's 11 wins marks the third-straight season to reach this milestone and will look to tie the school record of 12 wins when they travel to Saint Mary's (Ind.) next Tuesday (Oct. 18) at 4:00 p.m.
