Hornets Upset Adrian with Late Goal

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – A late Hornet goal defeated the conference-leading Adrian College women's soccer team, 1-0 tonight (Oct. 12). The Lady Bulldogs' six-game winning streak comes to a halt and goes to 10-4 overall and 8-2 in the MIAA. Kalamazoo improves to 7-6-1 overall and 6-4 in conference play.

In an evenly matched contest, both teams exchanged six shots and went into halftime with a scoreless tie.

With less than six minutes left in the second half, the Hornets capitalized on an opportunity to take the late 1-0 lead. It happened when Stephanie Verbeek found Jackie Short for Short's first goal of the season.

Adrian had chances throughout the match, totaling six shots on goal. Lauren Cozzi led the Adrian offense with three shots on goal and Erin Weide, Sam Barker, and Sam Greene accounted for one each.

Bulldogs' goalie Chayna Wallace played tough with eight saves.

Adrian continues its four-game road trip as it travels to Trine on Saturday (Oct. 15) for a noon kickoff.
