OLIVET, Mich. The regionally ranked Adrian College women's soccer team, under the guidance of head coach Ali Alamdari, blanked Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe Olivet College 3-0 today (Oct. 4).The win marks the Lady Bulldogs fourth-straight win and third overall shutout of the season.
Adrian improves to 8-3 overall and 6-1 in the MIAA, while the Comets drop to 1-10 and 1-6 in league play.
The scoring was a collaborative effort with coming off the foot of three different Adrian players.
Adrian got the scoring started at the 32nd minute mark when Erin Weide found MIAA Offensive Player of the Week Sam Barker with a nice cross from inside the box. Barker connected and scored her team and conference-leading 11th goal of the year to give the Lady Bulldogs the 1-0 lead.
After intermission, the Lady Bulldogs did not waste anytime adding to their lead at the 47th minute when Ellery Karsten found Lauren Cozzi from four yards out for the score. It marked Cozzi's fourth goal on the season.
Carmina Lizyness scored her second goal on the year when she placed the ball in the far low post with about five minutes remaining in regulation.
In the net, Adrian goalie Steffeny Burns got the nod and played all 90 minutes and accumulated two saves.
Adrian looks to make it five-straight wins on Thursday (Oct. 6) as they travel to Albion. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
