ADRIAN, Mich. - It took a season-high 27 shots, including 12 on goal, for the Adrian College women's soccer team to top MIAA foe Trine University 1-0 on the turf at Performance Stadium. The win puts the Lady Bulldogs 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference, while the Thunder falls to 3-5 and 1-3 in the league.
In the 70th minute of the match, freshman Erin Weide showed tremendous effort hustling through Trine's defense after a live ball and was fouled in the process by the Thunder's goalie which resulted in a penalty kick for the Bulldogs.
Sophomore Sam Barker took the penalty kick and capitalized with a goal to the left side of the net. The goal is number seven on the season for Barker which tops the team and the conference.
For the game, Adrian had a remarkable 27-4 shot advantage (11-2 in shots on goal). Barker tied her season-high with 11 shots and seven on goal. Junior Sam Greene and Weide contributed with two shots on goal apiece, while junior Courtney Pomeroy earned one.
Adrian's keeper Chayna Wallace earned her fifth win on the season, while accumulating two saves.
The Bulldogs are back in action next Wednesday (Sept. 28) as they travels to face the current leader of the MIAA, Hope College. The match is slated for 7:00 p.m.
