OLIVET, Mich. - The women's soccer team will represent Adrian College in the MIAA Tournament Semifinals after a 2-0 win at Olivet in the first round of the tournament on Saturday. The Bulldogs (11-5-3) scored two goals in the second half of the win and will now play at top-seeded Alma College on Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 3:00 p.m.
"Obviously a win is always the goal, but to get one on the road in a
difficult environment was a great accomplishment," said head coach Ali Alamdari. "As much as we were disappointed with our regular season finish, that's been wiped away by our performance today. When the season began, we thought it would be Adrian, Alma, Calvin, and Kalamazoo fighting it out for the title. So in that sense, we're exactly where we hoped to be at this point in the season."
The Bulldogs opened up the scoring at 64:38 as senior Bethany Cousino scored her first goal of the season needing to keep her career alive at Adrian. McKenzie Doda got the assist on a shot from inside the 18-yard box to the near post. Adrian added to their lead just 6:01 later as freshman Anika Johnson scored her second goal of the season with an assist from freshman Sam Barker. Johnson took a shot from 12 yards out.
Steffeny Burns posted her first shutout of the season in net improving to 3-1 on the year. She made seven saves in 90 minutes. Adrian and Olivet each had seven shots on goal for the match. Adrian had seven different players with one shot on goal.
