KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The regular season drew to a close for the women's soccer team on Wednesday with a 2-1 loss at Kalamazoo and now the team must focus on their next goal of winning the MIAA Tournament as an underdog. The Bulldogs finished fifth in the MIAA standings and hit a flatline during the end of the season going 2-4-1 in their final seven matches. AC (10-5-3, 4-4 MIAA) will now travel to fourth-seeded Olivet on Saturday for a noon kickoff in the first round of the MIAA Tournament.
The regular season finale saw both teams tip-toe into halftime with a scoreless draw. Kalamazoo had eight total shots in the first half while Adrian had four total shots. In the second half, the scoring began at 56:45 as Jackie Short made it 1-0 in favor of the Hornets. The home squad then put Adrian in a 2-0 hole at 63:20 as Samantha Voss took a pass from Emily Gray to give Kalamazoo a firm hold on the match.
The Bulldogs would not go without a fight as Sam Barker connected on her 17th goal of the season at 68:45 with an assist from Jordan Wolf. Barker led the team with 43 points this season which is a single-season school record.
Kalamazoo (8-7-2, 5-2-1 MIAA) registered 17 total shots and eight shots on goal. Courtney McCoy made two saves for the Hornets which finished third in the MIAA. Chayna Wallace gathered six saves for the Bulldogs and posted a 1.02 goals against average this season.
