The women's soccer team had their way with Trine University on Saturday morning with a 5-0 win over the Thunder on homecoming at Performance Stadium. The Bulldogs outshot the Thunder, 24-3, and also had a 16-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Freshman Sam Barker continues to impress as she scored her second career hat trick with three goals all coming in succession. This season she has scored in eight of the team's 11 matches. Barker set the single-season school record for points (36) and also tied the single-season school record for goals (14).
Her first tally came at 17:29 with an assist from Tessa Kellar. Kellar did a nice give-and-go play and Barker buried the ball for her 12th goal of the season. Barker struck again quickly unassisted just 27 seconds later as her first shot on goal and saved and she drove home the rebound in front of the box to make it 2-0 going into halftime.
Barker's third goal of the game came at 60:50 as Courtney Pomeroy feed her the ball to the left wing and Barker squeezed it underneath the keeper from about 16 yards out. Freshman McKenzie Doda scored her first goal of the season at 67:42 with an assist from Samantha Bono. Doda lobbed a shot from 35 yards out over the head of the keeper to make it 4-0. Freshman Haley Smith concluded the scoring at 80:47 for her first career goal. Smith took a pass from Doda and fired from the left wing around 15 yards away into the top of the net just underneath the crossbar.
Chayna Wallace pitched her fifth complete shutout of the season and needed to make just two saves. Adrian improved to 8-1-2 overall and 2-0 in the MIAA.
