The Adrian College women's soccer team cruised to a 3-0 win on Wednesday at Saint Mary's of the Woods College, a USCAA school based in Indiana. The Bulldogs scored a pair of goals in the first half and added another in the early stages of the second half improving to 6-1-2 on the season.
The Bulldogs were once again led by freshman Sam Barker who recorded her 10th and 11th goals of the season and now stands just three shy of the single-season record set by Lori Hodges back in 1992. In addition, Barker also had an assist which was her sixth helper of the season.
Barker scored from 10 yards out at 25:00 with an assist from fellow freshman Haley Smith. She then made it 2-0 10 minutes later off a header from a cross by freshman Anika Johnson. After building a 2-0 halftime lead, the Bulldogs scored 4:03 into the second half as freshman Jordan Wolf scored her second goal of the year from 10 yards out with Barker getting the assist.
Adrian outshot St. Mary of the Woods, 33-4, including 8-4 in shots on goal. Junior Steffeny Burns and sophomore Chayna Wallace combined for the shutout in goal, the fourth by Adrian College this season. Each played a half with Wallace making three saves in the first half and Burns making one save in the second half. Johnson led the team with nine shots and had three shots on goal.
