ELMHURST, Ill. – In a highly anticipated matchup for the Adrian College women's soccer team, the Bulldogs earned a 2-2 tie on Sunday afternoon at Elmhurst College. Adrian is currently ranked 10th in the Central Region while Elmhurst is currently ranked eighth in the Central Region.
Elmhurst (5-1-1) jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 18:46 as Valerie Wesley scored with an assist from Biba Beckwith. Adrian (5-1-2) responded after halftime at 48:33 as Samantha Bono scored her second goal of the season with an assist from Sam Barker.
Kelsey Caldwell put the Blue Jays up 2-1 at 52:21 with an assist from Wesley and it looked like Elmhurst would pull out a victory. The Bulldogs kept the pressure on until the final seconds as Barker got her ninth goal of the season with an assist from Sabrina Fortney which tied the contest at 89:28 and sent things into overtime.
Neither team could put in the game-winner in the two 10-minute overtime sessions. Adrian did not record a shot while Elmhurst had eight shots and six shots on goal in the extra periods. The Blue Jays outshot the Bulldogs, 22-9, with a 13-8 edge in shots on goal. Chayna Wallace had a good game in net for the Bulldogs with a career-high 11 saves including six in overtime periods.
