The Adrian College women's soccer team captured the Marietta Soccer Classic championship on Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 win in the title game against Rivier. The Bulldogs scored all three of their goals in the second half and posted back-to-back shutouts in the tournament.
Sam Barker was named the tournament MVP as she scored the game-winner. Kellie Irwin, Tessa Kellar and Sabrina Fortney were also named to the all-tournament team. Barker's goal at 47:13 was all the team needed.
Lauren Cozzi scored just 58 seconds later on a header off a free kick and Sabrina Fortney put the finishing touches on the win at 53:41 of a loose ball in the box. Patti Vaassen assisted on all three goals for the Bulldogs.
Chayna Wallace only needed to stop two shots to pick up the shutout. Adrian registered 14 shots on goal and 27 total shots. Adrian (2-1) also had a 10-1 edge in corner kicks.
