Alumnus Brett Asher Selected to Lead Adrian College Women's Lacrosse

ADRIAN, Mich.--Adrian College director of athletics Michael Duffy announced on Wednesday that Brett Asher '09 will be the new head coach for the Bulldogs women's lacrosse program. Asher becomes the fifth coach in the team's 11-year history.

For the previous two seasons, Asher has assisted his wife, Amanda (who played on the first Adrian women's lacrosse team in 2008), with the Concordia University--Ann Arbor women's lacrosse program.  Asher focused on the team's offensive unit, but supported in all aspects of the team to include recruiting, formulating game plans and opponent scouting reports, working with the team's goalies, and assisting with scheduling, supervising team study tables, and running the team's social media platforms.

Asher also has club lacrosse experience with the Michigan Wave Lacrosse Club, as Director of Operations and Assistant Coach. He coached players for the high school club team from Northville, South Lyon, Novi, Mercy, St. Catherine, Plymouth, Canton, Salem, Lake Fenton, and Powers Catholic high schools.

"Brett is a Bulldog at heart so he knows the pulse of our campus," Duffy said. "He has an extensive network of contacts with high school and club coaches in the state of Michigan and throughout the Midwest, so that experience will help in building our roster. I share his vision in restoring the stature of Adrian College Women's Lacrosse among the elite in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association."

No stranger to Adrian College, Asher received a bachelor of arts degree in English and graduated summa cum laude. He was a four-year student-athlete on the Bulldogs men's basketball team, serving as co-captain for his 2008-09 senior season. He was named the squad's co-most valuable player that season and also earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

"I am excited to be back at Adrian College and to get the chance to lead the women's lacrosse program," stated Asher. "During my time as a student-athlete at Adrian, I was able to grow so much (personally) thanks to the great professors and coaches that invested in me and took an interest in seeing me succeed in the classroom and in athletics. I feel very fortunate that I am now a part of this great community and will be able to support our student-athletes in achieving their goals. I would like thank President (Dr. Jeffrey R.) Docking, (Vice President of Enrollment and Student Affairs) Frank Hribar, and Mike Duffy for providing me with this opportunity. I would also like to thank my wife, Amanda, for supporting me and preparing me to take this step.

"I know this program has a great history, and I am looking forward to getting on the field with this year's team. Just from talking with the players over the past couple days, I know this group has a lot of potential and they are ready to work hard to put their stamp on this program."

The former fulltime attorney attended the Wayne State University Law School in Detroit, conferring a doctor of jurisprudence degree in 2012. He graduated in the top-10 percent of his class and received a full tuition academic scholarship.
