Women's Lacrosse Fall 12-9 to St. Mary's to start 0-1 in MIAA Play

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Adrian College women's lacrosse team made a late push but fell 12-9 to St. Mary's in an MIAA road opener.

THE BASICS

Location: Notre Dame, Indiana (Saint Joseph High School)

Records: St. Mary's (4-5, 1-0), Adrian (1-7, 0-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Bulldogs jumped up to a quick 1-0 lead when Alex Branum scored the first of her three goals in the game

• The Belles responded by scoring the next four goals, taking a 4-1 lead

• Adrian would cut the lead in half less than a minute later when Alison Dungey scored off an assist from Branum

• St. Mary's would respond again by scoring four straight goals increasing the lead to six (8-2), the Belles largest lead in the game

• The Bulldogs would score the final goal of the half to put the score at 8-3 at halftime

• Adrian would score six of the ten goals in the second half and four of the final five in the effort to bring the score back even, but would run out of time

TOP DOGS

• Branum and Ava Cares both scored a hat trick and one assist in the game to lead the Bulldogs in scoring

Annie Rice had one goal and two assists on the day

Annika Nuler also scored one goal

• Rice, Jenna Carter and Mariesa Johnson had two draw controls

• Rice and Hannah Vandenboom led defensively with seven ground balls

• Rice also lead Adrian with four caused turnovers

TOP ST. MARY'S PERFORMERS

• Kate Kelly lead in points with four goals and one assist

• Emilie Vanneste and Mery Grace Heller also scored hat tricks with three goals each, Vanneste also contributed an assist

• Clare Theisen led with six ground balls and five draw controls

• Kelly had a game high five caused turnovers
