Freshman Annie Rice Scores Twice in @ACWLAX Debut as the Bulldogs Open 2016 in Tennessee

SEWANEE, Tenn.--The Adrian College women's lacrosse team opened the 2016 campaign on Sunday in the Volunteer State where the Bulldogs fell 18 to 6 at the hands of host Sewanee. 

THE BASICS

= Final Score: Sewanee 18, Adrian 6

= Location: Puett Field, Sewanee, Tenn.; Weather: Clear, 57 degrees

= Records: Sewanee Tigers 3-2; Adrian Bulldogs 0-1

HOW IT HAPPENED
= Sewanee opened by scoring 11 of the game's first 12 goals. During that stretch, Relly King, Sydney Beldock, Kit Sommi, Catherine Crigler, Hannah Tompkins, Isabel Burnett, and Meredith Sackett all scored.

= Adrian freshman Annie Rice scored two goals in her first collegiate game.

= Sophomore Annika Nuler matched teammate Rice with a Bulldog-high two goals.

= The Tigers led 13-3 at halftime, but were held to five goals in the second half.

= Adrian sophomore Alex Branum, who also tallied a goal, led all student-athletes with four ground balls and three caused turnovers.

THE OPPOSITION
= Sewanee outshot Adrian 33-16, led in draws, 17-8, and clears, 13-9.

Tompkins led the Tigers with a game-high five points on three goals and two assists.

= Crigler and King also both registered a hat trick.

= The Tigers have now won back-to-back games.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= Sewanee is also known as The University of the South.

= Despite the loss, the Bulldogs still lead the all-time series over the Tigers, 4-2.

= Adrian is 4-5 in season openers since the program was founded in 2008. 

UP NEXT
= Adrian continues non-conference action on Tuesday against Birmingham Southern on a neutral field at Sewanee.
