ADRIAN, Mich. - The women's lacrosse squad took on the Britons of Albion College Wednesday night in the MIAA Tournament semifinals. Adrian took control of the game early and fought off the Britons in the second half as they advanced to the MIAA Tournament final with a 22-10 victory.
Adrian started the game by scoring the first six goals over the initial 17:54 of play. The Britons turned it on late in the half as they scored four goals while the Bulldogs scored six more times and the teams went into half with the score 10-4 in favor of Adrian. TaShina Salas scored three goals, Brianna Plester scored three times while Maddie Dugan and Hannah Early each scored twice.
The second half saw the Britons try to control the pace of the game through the first 12 minutes with slow play. The Bulldogs did not allow a goal and regained their offensive stride at the 17:39 mark with two goals in 32 seconds. Adrian would use this momentum to score 10 more goals for the half while allowing only six from Albion on their way to a 12-goal victory and a spot in the MIAA Tournament final. Plester scored three more times, Dugan added three more goals, while Salas and Early each scored two more goals. Christine Campbell scored twice to cap the Bulldog scoring.
Plester scored six goals, added two assists, and compiled 18 draw controls. Plester is currently leading NCAA Division III in draw controls. Dugan scored five goals and added two assists. Early scored four goals, added three assists and recorded two draw controls. Salas scored five goals and Campbell scored twice while adding three assists.
Jul Tehovnik (11-5) earned the victory in goal for the Bulldogs as she made five saves and recorded three ground balls.
The Bulldogs will see action again Friday, May 2 when they host Alma College at Docking Stadium at 7 p.m. The winner will gain the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
