ADRIAN, Mich. - The 2012 senior class has established Adrian College as one of the up-and-coming programs in NCAA Division III and they went out with an 18-10 win on Senior Day over North Central (Ill.) on Saturday afternoon.
Adrian improved to 15-2 overall and finished with a 7-0 Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference record. They will host the upcoming MWLC Tournament beginning on Friday, May 4.
North Central scored the game's first goal as Caroline Gully's 27th tally of the season was recorded as a man-up goal at 26:42 unassisted. Adrian then managed to score nine straight times in the first half over a period of 13:20. Lindsey Day started it off at 25:28 unassisted. Cassie Hoyez, Amanda Lambert, Olivia Duncan, Rachel Johnston and Meghan Reynolds followed with goals during the stretch. Johnston, Reynolds and Lambert each scored again during the run as Adrian led 9-1 with 12:08 left in the first half.
North Central scored three of the next five goals in the half to narrow the lead to 11-4 at intermission. Danielle Fiala scored with one second left in the half and finished the game with five goals for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals did not give up during the second half and cut the lead down to 12-8 with 19:19 remaining after Fiala's 49th goal of the season. Adrian called a timeout and then responded with four straight goals over a span of nearly 14 minutes to take a 16-8 lead with 4:59 left in the contest.
Adrian outshot North Central, 33-22, including a 17-9 edge in the first half. Adrian also recorded 27 ground balls and 19 draw controls. The Bulldogs were 1-for-1 in extra-man opportunities and were successful on 10-of-13 clears. Day finished with nine points and two ground balls. Duncan had three goals and one assist. Reynolds had three goals and one assist. Laura Finfrock played 49:19 in net and made four saves.
