ADRIAN, Mich. - The women's lacrosse team could not hold on during the longest game in school history falling 15-14 in triple overtime to Fredonia State on Saturday afternoon at Performance Stadium. The Bulldogs led 6-2 during the first half but could not hold onto the lead as both teams went into halftime tied 7-7. Katie Kleine scored four of Fredonia State's goals during the late first half run.
Adrian scored the first two goals of the second half as Cassie Hoyez scored her seventh goal of the season and Rachel Johnston added her 16th goal of the season. The Blue Devils tied the game again at 10-10 with 15:50 left in the second half. Adrian scored three straight goals to take a 13-10 lead with 8:56 left in regulation. Meghan Reynolds, Stacey Birlson and Amanda Lambert each scored for the Bulldogs.
Fredonia State then scored the game's next three goals to send things into overtime. Amy Simon scored twice at 5:44 and 3:18 and Karli Brinthaupt scored her 12th goal of the season with 1:46 left to tie things up.
In the first overtime, Simon scored her 25th goal of the season at 1:02 and then Adrian's Lindsey Day scored with 19 seconds left from Reynolds to send things into a second overtime. Neither team scored in the second overtime and the game went into a third overtime. In the sudden death format, Kleine ended the game with 1:43 left in the third extra session on a free-position shot.
Laura Finfrock had one of the best games in goal of her career with 16 saves. Birlson ended with two goals and four assists for a team-high six points. Olivia Duncan led Adrian with four goals on five shots on goal. Adrian finished with 15 draw controls as Duncan led the team with five. Katrina Rabishaw led the team with six ground balls and caused three turnovers.
