CLAREMONT, Calif. - The women's lacrosse team finished its California swing with a 13-11 double overtime win against Pomona-Pitzer on Tuesday, Feb. 28.
Senior Amanda Lambert led the Bulldogs with six assists and also added a goal. Rachel Johnston and Olivia Duncan each scored three goals while Johnston also assisted on three more goals. Lindsey Day and Hannah Early each scored a pair of goals. Stacey Birlson ended the game with a goal and two assists.
Adrian held a slim 6-5 lead at halftime despite outshooting the Sagehens, 21-9. Adrian took a 3-1 lead in the first half scoring three straight goals. Pomona-Pitzer responded with three straight goals to take a 4-3 lead with 9:36 left in the half. Adrian scored three of the last four goals to end the half including the goal which gave them the lead with two seconds left by Duncan.
Pomona-Pitzer and Adrian went back and forth during the second half. Adrian led 9-7 at the 19:59 mark but the Sagehens responded with back-to-back goals in the next nine minutes to tie the game at 9-9. Johnston scored at 8:19 to give AC a 10-9 lead and then the Sagehens scored the next two goals to take a 11-10 lead with 2:26 remaining. Lambert tied the game at 11-11 with 1:37 to go with an assist from Johnston.
In overtime it was Johnston scoring at 2:29 and Duncan scoring at 1:14 to give Adrian the winning goals. Jul Tehovnik picked up her second win of the season in net playing 36 minutes and making three saves. Laura Finfrock played 30 minutes and made two saves in the second half. Adrian finished the game with a 40-17 edge in shots. They also led 33-18 in ground balls and were successful on 10-of-11 clear attempts.
