Women's Hockey Hands Plattsburgh State First Loss of Season in Panther/Cardinal Classic

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Adrian College women's hockey program extended its winning streak to seven games on Saturday, Nov. 24, beating second-ranked Plattsburgh 1-0 in the semifinal of the Panther/Cardinal Classic.

Final Score: No. 5 Adrian 1, No. 2 Plattsburgh State 0

Location: Middlebury, Vt. (Kenyon Arena)

Records: Adrian 8-1, Plattsburgh State 5-1

It didn't take long for Adrian to open the scoring, as sophomore forward Neysa Miller found the back of the net 7:13 into the game. Junior forward Taylor Henthorne carried the puck up the ice from the Bulldogs' defensive zone and took a shot on goal from the top of the circles in Plattsburgh State's zone. The shot generated a juicy rebound that popped right out to Miller who was able to slip the puck in past the sliding goaltender. The goal marks the first goal that Plattsburgh State had allowed all season.

All Adrian had to do after the goal was fend off the Cardinals' attacks for the rest of the game; which is exactly what the Black and Gold's defense did. The shots on goal were close, with Plattsburgh State coming away with a 25-21 advantage. The shutout victory gives AC its fifth shutout in nine games this year. Plattsburgh State was ranked second in the country according to the USCHO and D3Hockey polls, making the Cardinals the second-highest ranked team the Bulldogs have beaten. Adrian had previously defeated Wisconsin-River Falls when it was ranked number-one in the country in a prior season.

• Miller scored the lone goal of the game.

• Henthorne picked up an assist on Miller's goal.

• Sophomore goaltender Kate Turner stopped all 25 shots she faced in net.

• Abby Brush led the Cardinals with five shots on net.

• Goaltender Kassi Abbott made 20 saves in the loss.

The Bulldogs advance to the championship game of the Panther/Cardinal Classic where they will play hosts Middlebury tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 25 at 5 p.m. The fourth-ranked Panthers tied with top-ranked Elmira in the other semifinal game and advanced in the shootout.
