In 2016, Elmira defeated Adrian 3-1 in the first-ever NCAA tournament game hosted by the Bulldog women.
These two teams also met earlier this season in the East/West Classic. The Soaring Eagles were the victors with a 5-1 win. Elmira is the only Adrian opponent to score more than four goals this season. The all-time series between the Bulldogs and Soaring Eagles is tied 2-2.
Adrian comes into the game having won its third consecutive Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Slaats Cup title after a 4-3 overtime-win over Lake Forest on Saturday. The Bulldogs have an overall record of 22-5-1 and a 16-1-1 conference mark on the season and are currently ranked 5th in both the USCHO.com and the D3hockey.com poll.
Elmira (3rd USCHO.com & D3hockey.com) won the first-ever championship in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) 5-0 over Stevenson on Sunday. The Soaring Eagles are 23-2-2 overall this season and had a 15-0-1 conference record.
Of the nine teams in the championship field, six of the teams received automatic qualification berths as winners of their conference championship. One institution was selected from Pool B, which includes independent institutions and institutions from conferences that do not meet the automatic qualification criteria. Two institutions were selected from Pool C, which consists of institutions from automatic-qualifying conferences that were not the conference champion and independent institutions that were not selected for the Pool B berth.
