Women's Hockey Claims Two of the Three Major NCHA Awards

DULUTH, MINN. - The Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) announced the selections for the All-NCHA women's hockey awards today. The Adrian College women's hockey team claimed two of the three major conference awards with freshman goalie Kate Turner (Houston, Texas) being dubbed the NCHA Freshman of the Year (it's the third consecutive season that a Bulldog freshman has earned the honor) and Chad Davis claiming his fourth straight conference coach of the year award.

In addition to freshman of the year, Turner was named to the All-NCHA team along with teammates Olivia Fox (Massillon, Ohio), Tory Harshman (Owen Sound, Ontario), Kelly O'Sullivan (Inverness, Ill.), and Kristi Zink (Canton, Mich.). Brooke Schembri (Canton, Mich.) joins Turner on the NCHA All-Freshman team.

Turner is tied with Jade Walsh with the Adrian College record for wins in a season with 20. She also claimed the top spot in the Adrian record book with her 11 shutouts in a season which also leads all NCAA DIII goalies. She is third in goals-against average with 0.93, eighth in save percentage (.948), and ninth in winning percentage (.788).

Fox was named the NCHA offensive player of the week in January. She has the fourth-most points on the team with 23 (11,12). Her 11 goals are the third-most on the Bulldogs. Fox has three game-winning goals on the season, one power-play, and one short-handed goal. This is her first appearance on the All-NCHA team in her two-year Adrian career.

Harshman made the D3hockey.com team of the week in November. She is tied for third in the nation for power-play goals with eight. She has totalled 26 points (13,13) this season, second-most on the team. She leads the Bulldogs in power-play goals and has tallied one game-winner. Her 13 assists are tied for second amongst her teammates.

O'Sullivan returns to the All-NCHA team for the second consecutive year. She was the NCHA freshman of the year last season and has earned conference player of the week twice this season and was a member of the D3hockey.com team of the week three times. She sits in third in the country in points per game for defensemen with 1.04 and is leading Adrian in points (7+21=28). O'Sullivan has netted two power-play goals and one game-winner for the 2017-18 campaign.

Bulldog captain Zink is making her first appearance on the all-conference first team in her career. She is just behind fellow defensemen, O'Sullivan in points per game (defensemen) in the nation with 0.93. Her point total of 25 (4,21) is third-most on the team.

Schembri made the All-Freshman team behind her 19 total points (8,11). Three of her eight goals are game-winners--second-most on the team--and two came on the power-play. She is 14th among freshman for points per game with 0.79.

Coach Davis is the NCHA Coach of the Year for the fourth consecutive season. Davis led the team to a 21-5-1 overall record and a 16-1-1 NCHA record and a fourth consecutive Kronschnabel Trophy. His career record currently sits at 149-36-10 and extends his lead over all former Adrian College women's hockey coaches in career wins.
