ADRIAN, Mich. – The women's hockey team opened their final weekend of the regular season against Marian University (Wis.) Friday evening. The Bulldogs completed their regular season sweep of the Sabres with a 5-1 victory that advanced their overall record to 5-1 and upped their NCHA mark to 14-0-3.
Kristin Lewicki sparked the Bulldogs with a late shorthanded goal that gave Adrian a 1-0 lead with just 20 seconds remaining in the first period. Lewicki notched her 12th goal of the season and would add two more assists to the game to bring her season total to 25.
Adrian would add to their lead in the second as Logan Taylor and Sydney Smith each recorded goals. Taylor would score when Lewicki made a quick move from the behind the net that left the back door wide open. Smith tallied her second of the season from the point on assists from Sydney Dobbin and Michelle Jones.
The Sabres would bring the Bulldog lead to within two at the 10:37 mark of the final period when Amanda Waigand beat Jade Walsh top shelf. Adrian would respond by putting the game out of reach with two more goals. Kaylyn Schroka made a strong move that split two defenders at the blue line for her 13th of the season. Kelsey Kusch then tallied her 20th of the season at the 17:43 mark that secured the 5-1 win.
Walsh (19-1-4) earned the victory in goal for Adrian by making 27 saves.
