HANCOCK, Mich. – The Bulldogs finished their weekend sweep of Finlandia University Saturday afternoon by taking storming out to a 4-0 first period lead and did not surrender a goal to the Lions until 13:30 remained in the game as the team cruised to its 10th straight victory overall and 12th straight over the Lions. Adrian eased its way to a 7-1 win with the help of freshman forward Kristin Lewicki as she tallied her first career hat trick. The win advanced the Bulldogs to 16-3 on the season and 9-3 in the NCHA.
The first period saw two goals by both Hannah McGowan and Lewicki as Adrian out matched Finlandia by firing 11 shots on goal to just one from the Lions. McGowan (9) scored her first on a power play opportunity with 10:20 left in the period from Alix Vallee and her second (10) just six minutes of gameplay later on an even strength goal from Bailey Robertson. Lewicki (10) scored her first of the game just 23 seconds after McGowan's first to put the Lions behind by two goals quickly on an assist from Devyn Fitzhenry. Lewicki (11) scored her second of the game on a shorthanded opportunity with just 29 seconds left in the period from Lauren Turner to advance the Bulldog lead to four heading into the first intermission.
The second period was once again all Adrian as they scored two more goals and took their to 6-0 after 40 minutes of play. The first came with 2:30 left in the period when Michelle Jones (4) scored from Kelsey Kush and McGowan. Kaylyn Schroka (6) then took the Bulldog lead to six with just 46 seconds to play in the period on an assist from Sarah Shureb.
The final period saw Adrian cruise to its 10th straight win as the Bulldogs traded goals with the Lions. Finlandia ended the Adrian shutout at the 6:30 mark but the Bulldogs managed to score one more before the final horn. Lewicki (12) completed her hat trick on a power play opportunity with 4:26 left in the game from McGowan and Kusch.
Brooke Gibson made the start in the net for Adrian and increased her record to 5-1 by making 12 saves and holding Finlandia to 0-3 on the power play.
The Bulldogs will see action again Friday, January 31 when they host St. Scholastica for a 7 p.m. faceoff.
