ADRIAN, Mich. – The Bulldogs completed their weekend sweep of Concordia (Wis.) Saturday afternoon by jumping out to a four goal lead and fending off the Falcons third period surge to win, 4-3. The win puts Adrian at 14-3 on the season and 7-3 in the NCHA.
Adrian began the game by dominating the first period with three goals and outshooting Concordia (Wis.) 9-6. Kaylyn Schroka and Sydney Dobbin each scored a goal in the first five minutes of the game on assists from Sarah Shureb and Abby Kibler. The Bulldogs carried this early momentum through the next seven minutes of gameplay until Audrey Noles advanced the Adrian lead to three on assists from Lexie Tzafaroglou and Lauren Turner.
This first period dominance was carried into the second 20 minutes as Adrian once again scored quickly. Kristin Lewicki scored just 5:36 into the period on assists from Courtney Millar and Kelsey Kusch. Adrian would go on to outplay the Falcons throughout the period as they fired 12 shots on goal to just seven from the Falcons.
The momentum changed in the final period as Concordia (Wis.) gave their best effort to avoid the weekend sweep. The Falcons scored three times in the period, and did so all within the first 10 minutes of the period. The Falcons outshot the Bulldogs for the period 13-3, but the Bulldogs fought hard to maintain their lead as they battled through a Falcon power play and 1:28 of 6-5 hockey to end the game. Adrian secured their victory 4-3 and advanced within two points of first place in the NCHA.
Jade Walsh earned the victory for the Bulldogs by stopping 23 shots as she increased her record to 10-2.
The Bulldogs will see action again January 24 when they travel to Finlandia for a weekend series and a 7 p.m. Friday night faceoff.
