ADRIAN, Mich. – The Bulldogs returned to Arrington Ice Arena Tuesday night for the first time in over a month and they did not disappoint their home crowd. Adrian flexed their muscle on the way to a 9-2 win over the Cougars of Chatham University. This win secured the Bulldogs 10th win of 2013-14 as they improved their overall record to 10-3 and their home record to 4-1.
The Bulldogs started off the game quickly as they fired 15 shots on net in the first period to just three from the Cougars. Adrian finally broke through at the 17:33 mark as Lexi Tzafaroglou scored on a power play opportunity. Adrian then capped the first 20 minutes with a short-handed goal at the 19:23 mark from Kristin Lewicki to take control of the game.
The second period saw an offensive surge as the Bulldogs tallied five goals including another power play goal from Tzafargolou. Hannah McGowan scored both a power play goal and a short-hander and Abby Kibler and Michelle Jones each netted an even strength goal as Adrian again dominated all 20 minutes. Chatham slipped two goals past goaltender Brooke Gibson between the Bulldog charge to leave the game at a 7-2 Adrian lead with one period to play.
Adrian solidified their victory as they scored two goals in the first seven minutes of the third to take their lead to 9-2. The first came from captain Lauren Turner at the 1:57 mark and the second from Sarah Shureb with 13:10 left to play. Adrian took this lead and sailed past the visiting Cougars to seal the win.
Gibson improved her record to 3-1 on the season by stopping 16 shots and helping fight off seven of the nine penalties taken by the Bulldogs.
Lewicki tallied three assists and both Alix Vallee and Kaylyn Schroka compiled two. Sydney Smith, Courtney Millar, Jones, Kelsey Kusch, McGowan, Audrey Noles, Bailey Robertson, Turner and Kibler each made the stat sheet by recording an assist.
The Bulldogs will see action Friday, January 10 when Adrian welcomes Buffalo State at 7 p.m.
