Minneapolis, Minn. – The Bulldog women's hockey team started their spring semester in a non-conference game against Augsburg on Friday night. Adrian did not show any signs of rust after their month long hiatus as they took down the Auggies 5-1 to improve to 8-3 on the season.
The first period saw the Bulldogs come out strong as they doubled Augsburg in shots, 8-4, on their way to a 2-0 lead. The first goal came 9:19 into the game when Sydney Smith (2) scored from Sarah Shureb and Kaylyn Shroka. Adrian then capped the initial 20 minutes with a power play goal as Danielle Smith (3) scored from Alix Vallee and Courtney Millar with just 2:21 remaining in the period.
The second period saw Adrian dominate on their way to scoring three more goals as they put the game out of reach, 5-0, before Augsburg could manage any statement. Shroka (2) scored on a Bulldog power play at the 7:54 mark from Millar to stretch the Adrian lead to three. Danielle Smith (4) scored her second of the game from Kelsey Kusch and Hannah McGowan nearly six minutes later on another power play opportunity to take the lead to four. Kusch (12) capped the Bulldog surge at the 17:20 mark from Shroka and Kristin Lewicki as Adrian left the Auggies far in the rearview with one period to play.
Augsburg gave their best effort in the third to get back into the game as they fired 11 shots on net and managed to score one. The Bulldogs held the Auggies in check and cruised to the victory and improved to 3-0 in non-conference action.
Jade Walsh made the start in the net and stopped 19 of the 20 shots she faced on the way to earning the victory and improved to 6-2 on the season.
The Bulldogs went a perfect 3-3 on the power play and held Augsburg to 0-3 on their way to the four goal win. Adrian will meet the Auggies again tomorrow for a 3 p.m. faceoff.
