LAKE FOREST, Ill.- The Adrian College women's hockey team made their 2013-14 season debut Friday night with a convincing victory over Lake Forest 4-2. The victory put the Bulldogs record at an early 1-0 on the season and 1-0 in the NCHA.
The game saw the Bulldogs jump out quickly to a 1-0 lead as captain Lauren Turner scored her first goal of the season from an Abby Kibler helper just 2 minutes into the season. Lake Forest managed to even the score before the first period horn sounded and the game went into its first intermission at a 1-1 tie. The Bulldogs took control in the second period as they scored two goals in the first four minutes of the period to take a commanding 3-1 lead. The first was an unassisted goal by freshman defenseman Sydney Dobbin, her first goal as a Bulldog. The second found the back of the net after sophomore forward Devyn Fitzhenry scored from Danielle Smith and Kelsey Kusch. This lead carried until the final two minutes of the period when Lake Forest managed to put the game within reach on a late goal and Adrian took a 3-2 lead to the second intermission. The Bulldogs did not wait long to take their advantage back to two goals as Courtney Millar scored six minutes into the period. This was a power play goal from Alix Vallee and Kelsey Kusch (2), and was all the scoring that was needed for Adrian to take a crucial road conference victory. Freshman goaltender Jade Walsh secured her first victory after stopping 41 of the 43 shots Lake Forest put on net.
The Bulldogs will play Lake Forest again tomorrow, November 2 at 4 p.m.
